Kiezu-no-Reikado, a building on the upper slopes of Mount Misen, Miyajima, in which is housed this fire, said to have been burning continuously for 1200 years, since being lit by the monk Kobo Daishi.
Incidentally, this flame was used to light the Flame of Peace in Hiroshima’s Peace Park.
